Chicago Children’s Museum hosts second annual Adaptive Sports Play For All Event
The event was organized by CCM’s Play For All team in collaboration with Dare2tri. Play For All is a CCM initiative that recognizes the rights of all guests, volunteers and staff to have full access to our community where play and learning connect. The museum is committed to providing exhibits, programs, and public spaces that are inclusive and interactive for all.
Highlights from Play For All’s second annual Adaptive Sports event included a book reading, mini art lesson, an athlete panel and a book signing by children’s author Sandra J. Philipson. The athlete panel was a not-to-miss moment. The panel of five, who ranged in age from 9-16, spoke enthusiastically and eloquently of their successful athletic experiences. The session was moderated by Silver Medalist International Triathlon Union World Champion Hailey Danisewicz and USA Paralympic and Paratriathlon World Campion Melissa Stockwell!
CCM visitors had the opportunity to experience a variety of adaptive sports including: Roller Sled Hockey, Goalball, Judo, Boccia and Hand Cycling. Volunteers from Scheck & Siress exhibited a variety of prosthetics while eagerly answering questions and interacting with the crowd.
“The parents wanted me to let you know how much they loved the entire experience. They said how they do not get to get out of the house often and have never had the opportunity to be so interactive with their kids…”
– The Christopher School
“…What a breath of fresh air, to have such amazing staff around who were so patient, kind and tolerant. Amazing to be able to just relax and play. We can’t wait to come again. Please pass on my thanks to your staff.”
The Play For All team at CCM will continue to offer children and families with all abilities events and programs that inspire, encourage and connect!
